Nourishing Bodies + Souls at Food Outreach

Today is a special day at food outreach:

At this morning’s Easter food drive, our faithful volunteers will serve 150 full holiday meals of ham and fresh sides to families living on the poverty line.

Also special? On holiday food drives like at Easter time, we estimate about 600 people in families are reached!

But not just with food…

While our food outreach — held about 50x / year — has become a lifeline of sorts that relieves food insecurity for 150+ “regulars” who show up week after week, the real win is soul-level nourishment.

We’ve made this weekly gathering about the intentional, authentic connection where neighbors are known and loved.

And it's here we learn about the burdens: A scary health prognosis. Another drug relapse. Job loss or a surprise pregnancy adding more financial stress.

Our helpers serve up an atmosphere of ministry where we linger and pursue real people in the struggles. Neighbors-turned-friends are prayed for, encouraged, loved, accepted, listened to.

Folks come to receive free food. They go having encountered Jesus.

Greenhouse Project's food outreach does much more than feed bellies. It quite literally feeds faith.

Over the next 5 weeks, the Feed the Faith campaign will raise $35,000 by April 26 to cover food costs, delivery truck rental, drivers, fuel, and supplies in 2024.

You can help feed the faith because more neighbors need gospel truth!

Here, some impact stories to inspire you:

APRIL WALKS A MILE EACH WAY TO FOOD OUTREACH
When April discovered our food outreach, she was racked with worry about having enough income to cover basic needs, concerned about making her groceries stretch between paychecks.

Luckily, she was introduced to Greenhouse Project.

"Now I come weekly. This food outreach helps me when I'm low on food, plus I get prayed for."

In a matter of months, because of community members like you, April was provided food security as well as authentic connection that has grown her faith and hope in Jesus.

In fact, I personally challenged her to hand out twenty-five Daily Bread devotionals to connect with new neighbors at food outreach, and she did it... with her sweet smile!

KEVIN IS FIRST TO ARRIVE AT FOOD OUTREACH
My other friend, Kevin, is an early riser from down the block.

Usually, he's the first one on the corner long before food outreach set-up begins on Tuesdays.

"It's a real blessing. The way the economy is, it helps put food on the table... I love the people coming together. The prayer. The vegetables, snacks, juice. All of it helps... Thank you. This really helps me."

You see, April and Kevin are gifted a moment to just breathe
