Celebrating the Life of a Faithful Volunteer, Serena Lockett

A faithful Food Outreach volunteer, Serena Lockett, went home to be with the Lord on May 29th.
Born and raised in Chester, Serena lived just down the block from our ministry with her husband of 43 years. When I think of someone who has made a lasting impact on Greenhouse Project, Serena immediately comes to mind.
Amazingly, Serena was with us the week before she passed, continuing to serve others selflessly—even after receiving a serious cancer diagnosis. The sudden loss came as a shock to our community.
Serena always served with dedication and truly believed that her efforts were Kingdom work. I remember her saying, “Food always brings people together!” She saw the food outreach as a blessing to her neighbors, and indeed, she was a blessing to each of us.
For more than three years, Serena faithfully managed sign-in sheets, warmly greeted participants, organized lines, and made sure everyone received all that they needed. She built relationships with each neighbor and consistently led with a servant’s heart. Even when it wasn’t convenient or when she was facing medical challenges, she continued to show up and serve, never once complaining.
Not only did she serve weekly, but she also led with excellence. There’s no doubt that God brought her to us. From the very beginning, we prayed for local leaders who would take the call to serve the Lord seriously—and then we met Serena. She responded to the need for leadership with grace and deep faith. Her love for the Lord was evident in her consistent, joyful service.
Pastor Donny, who leads the Food Outreach ministry and served alongside Serena for years, sincerely thanks the many neighbors who recently stopped by with cards for the family.
Pastor Donny shared: “Serena’s love for Jesus moved her to serve with Greenhouse. We have a Savior who first served us. The Food Outreach isn’t just about giving people food—it’s about showing them God’s love. Serena did just that. To me, Serena’s memory and legacy is Christian service. While she’s better off than any of us in glory, she will be greatly missed by her family and this ministry. This is a reminder that you never know what your last conversation with someone will be, so do all things to the glory of God.”
Meeting someone like Serena—who used her God-given gifts to bless others—is one of the reasons we believe God placed us here. It is a joy to witness people in Christ fulfilling the vision He has placed on their hearts.

We are comforted knowing that Serena is now free from the pain and heartache of this life and is in the presence of the Lord, beholding Him in glory. She will be deeply missed as a cherished member of our Greenhouse Project family. During this time, please keep her husband, their three adult children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in your prayers.
We believe that when Serena entered the presence of the Lord, she heard those beautiful words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
A memorial service to honor her life will be held on June 19th.
